Biography
Charlotte De Backer is a lecturer at the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Antwerp, where she teaches and conducts research in the field of interpersonal communication. She obtained her PhD degree at Ghent University in 2005. She has since been employed as postdoctoral assistant at the University of California, Santa Barbara (US, with Leda Cosmides, & John Tooby), as a lecturer at the University of Leicester (UK) post-doctoral assistant at Ghent University (with Johan Braeckman).
Research Interest
As a researcher, I am affiliated with the research group MIOS (https://www.uantwerpen.be/en/rg/mios/). Within MIOS we study the impact of ICT / media on behavior and we pay close attention to research into interpersonal communication. I mainly focus on interdisciplinary research, bringing together knowledge from different research areas to gain new knowledge. Currently I am active in the field of (1) nutrition, (2) social language and (3) interpersonal relationships (through own research, supervising doctoral students and supervising master's students (+/- 15 / year)):
