Gloria Gonzalez Fuster

Biography

Gloria González Fuster is a research professor at VUB, where she investigates legal issues related to fundamental rights, privacy, personal data protection and security, and lectures on fundamental rights protection in European Union (EU) law in the context of the Master of Laws in International and European Law (PILC). She has published The Emergence of Personal Data Protection as a Fundamental Right of the EU (Springer, 2014), a monograph based on her PhD dissertation defended at VUB's Faculty of Law and Criminology. She is currently contributing to the research project Promoting Integrity as an Integral Dimension of Excellence in Research (PRINTEGER), as well as to the action Introducing data protection and privacy issues at schools in the EU (ARCADES), both co-funded by the EU. She has previously participated to the projects Reflexive Governance In The Public Interest (REFGOV), Converging and Conflicting Ethical Values in the Internal/External Security in Continuum in Europe (INEX) and Privacy and Security Mirrors (PRISMS), as well as to the Future of Identity in the Information Society (FIDIS) Network of Excellence and the Living in Surveillance Societies (LiSS) COST action. She is also a member of the Advisory Board of a number of EU-funded projects. She studied Law at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (1998-2006), Journalism at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, (1993-98, including a stay at the Université Paris VIII) and Modern Languages and Literatures at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (1998-2000). She has worked at the European Commission's Citizenship Unit of the Education and Culture Directorate-General and at the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).
