Biography
Mr. Michel Helbig de Balzac is the Founder, Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director and Chairman of Wagram Invest S.A. and Wagram Invest S.A., Investment Arm. Mr. de Balzac is a seasoned business angel and has been involved in renewable energy development projects for more than a decade. Mr. de Balzac served as the Chairman of Bone Therapeutics SA since June 2013. Mr. de Balzac has handled development and trade sales of start-up companies in the energy sector. Previously, he was a Director in charge of private banking projects at Banque Dewaay and spent nine years at McKinsey & Company as a Consultant and then as the Director of Administration. He serves as Chairman of Walloon Federation for Renewable Energies. From 2009 to 2014, Mr. de Balzac served as the Chairman of EDORA. He serves as Vice-Chairman of Belgian Federation for Renewable Energy. He has particular knowledge in the fields of biotech, medical devices and energy and represents the funds at the board of several investee companies such as Spacebel, Ovizio and Bio-Sourcing. Previously, he was an acknowledged angel investor and entrepreneur with several high-growth companies. Complementary to venture capital, he has been very active in the development and financing of large-scale renewable energy development projects such as the North Sea offshore wind farm Northwester 2 consortium, comprised of Colruyt, TTR Energy (TPF Group), Incontrol and his own company Wagram Invest, which was granted a 224 MW area concession in 2013. From 2002 to 2013, he was influential in helping to launch a range of wind farm projects in the Walloon Region. Mr. de Balzac started his professional career in 1985 with McKinsey, where he was active in the steel and paper industries and the insurance and hospital sectors before taking on the responsibility of Administrative Director and General Secretary of their Brussels Office. He then joined Dewaay Bank in 1994 where he led the development of various private banking and corporate finance projects. He has been Director of Bone Therapeutics SA since 2013. He serves as a Board Member of Voice-Insight SA. He served as a Board Member of the Belgian Offshore Platform association. Mr. de Balzac holds degrees in Philosophy, Economics and Political Sciences from the University of Louvain (Belgium), where he also received a MSc degree in Urban and Regional Planning and a Post-Graduate degree in European studies.
