Biography
After opening his office in January of 1973, Dr. Trueman became chief of surgery by the time the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital replaced the old Victoria Public Hospital, in 1976. He was instrumental in organizing the hospital’s burn unit, which started in 1976 after intensive fund-raising led by members of the Fredericton Fire Department and radio personality Brad Woodside. The burn unit flourished for many years, before languishing from lack of government funding in 1994. The operating room which Dr. Trueman opened in 1986 for cosmetic surgery was New Brunswick’s first privately-owned surgical facility. Dr. Trueman was still in the process of closing this facility, now located on Beaverbrook Court, when he passed away at the Chalmers Hospital. In June, the annual meeting of the New Brunswick Medical Society honoured him with a lifetime membership, which it awarded to him in absentia.
