Biography
Mr. Antonio Vitor Martins Monteiro serves as the Independent Chairman of the Board of Banco Comercial Portugues SA since February 28, 2012. He is the Chairman of the Company's Corporate Governance Committee and a Member of its International Strategy Committee. He has been the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Company since 2011. Within the Company, he is responsible for Board of Directors Support Officer, Company Secretary Office and Fundacao Millenium. Previously, he had been Independent Member of the Supervisory Board of the Company. He also serves as Member of the Board of Directors of SOCO International plc, Member of the General Board of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Chairman of the Board of Curators of Fundacao Luso-Brasileira and Member of the United Nations Panel on Sudan Referendum. He joined the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1968. Among several other positions, he served as Head of the Office of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation from 1987 to 1991; Coordinator of the Permanent Steering Committee of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries from 1994 to 1996; Vice-Chairman of the ECOSOC and Ambassador of Portugal in France in 2001; High Commissioner of the UN for the Elections in the Ivory Coast from 2005 to 2006; Portugal's Representative in the European Space Agency (ESA) from 2001 to 2004 and from 2006 to 2009. He has a Licentiate degree in Law from the Law School of Universidade de Lisboa.
