Biography
Luiz Augusto Castro Neves is Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Brazilian Center for International Relations. He graduated in Economics from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and holds a Master degree in Economics from the University College of University of London. He is also diplomated in English language by University of Cambridge. Mr. Castro Neves is a career diplomat, graduated by the Rio Branco Institute where he also did a Diplomat Improvement course, a Commercial Sector Managing Training and the Higher Studies Course. He defended a thesis on "The Civil Uses of Nuclear Energy - Policy Instrument Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons". He served in Embassies in Buenos Aires and London, he was Brazil’s Ambassador in Paraguay (2000-2004), China (2004-2008) and Japan (2008-2010). He was General Director of the Department of Americas and General Secretary of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Castro Neves was also member of the Governors Joint of International Agency for Atomic Energy. He was Professor of Economics at the Rio Branco Institute as well as was Deputy Chief of Economic Affairs from the National Security Council (1985-1987) and Executive Secretary for Strategic Affairs of the Presidency (1992-1995). He was the Brazilian National Coordinator of the Rio Group and joined the Itaipu Board of Directors and currently is a member of the Board of Directors of Grupo Pão de Açúcar, where he presides the Sustainable Development Committee. Ambassador Castro Neves is also part of the Technical Board of the National Confederation of Commerce.
