Biography
Academic background: Agronomy (1977) and Masters (1980) by the Federal University of Viçosa; PhD in Agronomy / Plant Science by USP / Luiz de Queiroz School of Agriculture (1993); and, Post-Doctor "Crop Physiology / Soil-Water-Plant Relationship and Abiotic Stress" at University of Nebraska, Lincoln, NE, USA (2003). He is currently researcher-scientist III of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). He has experience in PD & I, TT, production and business in the field of Agronomy, with emphasis on Physiology of Cultivated Plants, working mainly on the following topics: production physiology, phenotyping and genotyping for drought tolerance and nitrogen use and efficiency, photoassimilates, relation source-drain, productivity and yield of Poaceae - grasses (maize: Zea mays L., sorghum: Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench, millet: Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.), Cane sugar: (Saccharum spp)]; and, rubber tree: Hevea spp, palm oil palm: Elaeis guineensis Jacq. and E. oleifera. He has experience in technical and administrative management in the private sector, teaching at UF-Viçosa and University of Amazonas, and managing PD & I at the University of Amazonas, EPAMIG and Embrapa. Coordinated projects in national networks (University of Amazonas, EPAMIG, Embrapa and CNPq) and international (Generation Challenge Program). General Manager of Embrapa Agroenergy / National Center for Agroenergy Research (CNPAE), from 21 / Dec / 2006 to 31 / Aug / 2011. Awarded with awards and distinctions: Recognition plate for the relevant services rendered as the first General Manager of Embrapa Agroenergia, granted on 10/13/2011 by Embrapa Agroenergia. Member State: PROSUL (MCT-Ordinance No. 1016, of Aug 4, 2009; and, MCTI, dated 11/28/2012); Board of Trustees of FAPED-Research and Development Support Foundation; Sectorial Chamber of Sugar and Alcohol - MAPA.
