Biography
Marcelo Carvalho Ayres completed his BS. Degree in Agronomy at the University of Brasilia, in 1988. During the years 1990 to 1995 he worked as an Associated Researcher for the Colaborative Project Embrapa/CIAT, developing work related to the area of evaluation and selection of forage grasses and legumes. In 1995 he was hired by Embrapa to develop reseach projects in forage and legume breeding. In 1996 he concluded his M.S. degree in Agronomy at the University of Brasilia and in 2004 received the title of Ph.D. In Agronomy (Genetics and Plant Breeding of Plants) by the University of Florida., where he received the Awards of Outstanding Academic Accomplishment (2002) and Best Thesis of the Agronomy Department (Year 2004). In Embrapa he coordinated 11 research projects. He published 26 articles in specialized journals, about 95 abstracts in annals of conferences, interacting with approximately 61 researchs in co-authorship of scientific papers. He is part of the research team that was responsible for the development and release of the cultivars Stylosanthes guianesis cv. ?Mineirăo?, Paspalum atratum cv. ?Pojuca?, Brachiaria brizantha cv. ?Xaraes?, cv. 'Capiporã', cv. 'Arapoty' cv. 'Piatã', and Arachis pintoi cv. BRS Mandobi?. He participated in 7 International meetings and 19 in Brazil. During the years 2005 and 2007 he served as coordinator of the Research Program I " National Challenges" of Embrapa R&D system. Marcelo Carvalho Ayres completed his BS.
