Biography

He holds a degree in Agronomy from the Federal University of Viçosa-UFV (1983), with a Masters in Genetics from Purdue University (1989) and a PhD in Molecular Biology of Plants from the University of Arizona (1993). Researcher at the Agricultural Research Company of Minas Gerais - EPAMIG, from 1986 to 1989 and researcher at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Company EMBRAPA, since 1989. He worked as a maize breeder, breeding program leader and Embrapa Maize and Sorghum Deputy Chief of Research and Development , located in the city of Sete Lagoas - MG. As a researcher at Embrapa, Corn and Sorghum contributed to the development of populations, varieties, strains and hybrids of tropical corn with emphasis on improving nutritional quality and tolerance to abiotic stresses, and participated in the management of Embrapa's plant genetics franchise system (UNIMILHO), developed in association with private seed companies. As a R & D manager at Embrapa Milho and Sorgo, he led the process of formulating, validating and implementing the team organization methodology according to the Thematic Core logic. From 2000 to 2003, he was Head of the Research and Development Department of Embrapa, in Brasília, where he led the process of defining and implementing the current management model of the company's R & D programming (
