Biography

He holds a PhD degree in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1986) and a PhD in Chemistry from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1997). He completed a sandwich course at the Universitat Tuebingen (Eberhard-Karls), Germany, and postdoctoral degree at the Munchen University Ludwig-Maximilians), Germany. He is currently a professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Federal University of Minas Gerais. Her practice focuses on Pharmacognosy / Phytochemistry, including the chemical-biological validation of medicinal and herbal plants, isolation of chemical markers, biomonitoring phytochemical studies and the development of chromatographic methods for the quantification of secondary metabolites. His main current interests are the search for natural products with potential anti-hypertensive and anti-inflammatory activity, As well as the standardization of extracts and fractions with a view to the development of herbal medicines. He is currently coordinator of the Post-Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences at UFMG.
