Biography
He holds a PhD in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (1977), a Master's degree in Chemistry from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1982) and a PhD in Carbohydrate Chemistry from the University of Paris XI (Paris-Sud) (1989). He is a full professor of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, where he develops his researches based on the use of carbohydrates in Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, with emphasis on the synthesis of bioactive substances from carbohydrates (antifungal, antibacterial, antiparasitic, antitumor). Another line of interest is the chemical transformation of compounds of natural or synthetic origin, aiming at obtaining substances with enzymatic inhibitory activity, antimicrobial, antiparasitic and antitumor.
