Biography

Maximilien de Bayser is a Research Software Engineer at IBM Research - Brazil since june 2013. Maximilien holds a M.Sc. (2012) in Informatics from PUC-Rio, the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and a B.Sc. (2010) in Computer Engineering from also from PUC-Rio. He is working on software platforms for the efficient integration and execution of scientific software systems, mainly in the area of systems for natural resources. His research interests are software engineering, programming languages, distributed computing, middleware and new computing models. He cares deeply about creating systems that present efficient abstrctions and are easy to reuse and debug. During his masters, he worked on runtime introspection for the C++ programming language to make it easier to create and reuse modules in this language. The final solution allows designers to create modules that don't depend on any specific platform not even on the proposed one. Before joinging IBM, Maximilien de Bayser worked as Software Engineer at the Centro de Pesquisas em Tecnologia de Inspeção - CPTI, a research lab associated to PUC-Rio, the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. There he worked on software for non-destructive testing of structures, mainly for Petrobras, the Brazilian petroleum companiy. The lab develops innovative hardware equipement to asses the integrity of structures such as oil pipelines, valves, flexible risers, ship hulls and oil platfrom buoys. The lab has received serveral prizes for its innovation in this field. An essential part of this is the software that drives the acquisition of data, processes the signals and creates visualizations for engineers.
