Biography
Dr. Michael Engel is a Research Staff Member at IBM Research Brazil in Rio de Janeiro where he is part of the Industrial Technology and Science group. His focus is on combining experimental research and technology development for industrial-scale applications in Oil&Gas, Healthcare, and Precision Agriculture. Michael has a Master degree in Engineering Physics from the Ilmenau University of Technology and a PhD in Physics from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Michael first joined IBM Research in Physical Sciences at the TJ Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, New York, USA, where he lead research projects concerned with novel nanometer scale materials and devices, including the demonstration of a cavity integrated light emitter and hyperspectral imaging using novel 2D materials.
