Biography

Dr. Rodrigo Neumann is a Research Staff Member at the IBM Research center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since August 2013 he is part of the Industrial Technology and Science group, led by Dr. Mathias Steiner. Rodrigo has a BSc in Physics (2008, Cum Laude) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and a PhD in Physics (2013) from UFRJ with a sandwich PhD fellowship from the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP - Trieste, Italy). In his PhD thesis entitled "Multiscale magnetism: from first-principles to finite temperature", he studied magnetic nanostructures with a multiscale computational approach aiming at their technological applications. Rodrigo's current research interests are in the fields of Digital Rock Physics, Microfluidics and Nanofluidics, applied to Enhanced Oil Recovery. He currently works on developing and extending simulation techniques to take into account the fluid-fluid and fluid-solid interactions that take place inside reservoir rocks at the micro- and nanoscale. Outside of working hours he enjoys photography, studying foreign languages and watching TV series.
