Biography

With a degree in Biological Sciences by the Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR) (1984-1989), a master’s degree in Aquiculture by the Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, Canada (1993-1995), and a PhD in Zoology by UFPR (1996-2001). He was an associate researcher at the Center for Sea Studies at UFPR in the Artificial Reefs Project between 1997 and 2003. As an advisor in coastal development, he supported the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) between 1997 and 1998 in Brazil. Working for private companies, he was a senior researcher for the Environment at the Instituto de Tecnologia para o Desenvolvimento (LACTEC), and manager for the Environment at the HSBC Bank Brasil, where he coordinated the Ecoefficiency area and the HSBC Climate Partnership Program in Brazil. In the non-governmental organizations field, he was one of the founders of the Associação Mar Brasil, an NGO acting in the conservation of marine ecosystems, where currently he is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He is one of the coordinators at the Observatório de Conservação Costeira do Paraná - OC2, a group of researchers and conservationists that monitor public policies and construction works being done in the coast of Paraná, monitor the actions of environmental mitigation and compensation for these construction works and aid both Federal and State Attorney’s Offices. He is also a professor and researcher at the Instituto Federal do Paraná and director for Undergraduate and Graduate Studies.
