Eládio Lecey

Biography

With a Law degree from the Faculdade de Direito de Caxias do Sul and a graduate course from the Faculdade de Direito da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Lecey is a retired judge. He is also chairman of the committee at the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), a professor at the Escola da Magistratura and coordinator of the specialization course in Environmental Law at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, president of the Escola Brasileira de Direito e Política Ambiental and Instituto O Direito por Um Planeta Verde. He was part og the committee of experts that provided suggestions for the elaboration of the legislation regarding environmental crimes and misdemeanors (Bill 9605/98), and he also was coordinator of the Revista de Direito Ambiental magazine, which is published by the Editora Revista dos Tribunais. Throughout his trajectory, he led several magistrate associations and received the title of honorary member, the highest honor of the Associação Brasileira dos Membros do Ministério Público do Meio Ambiente (Abrampa) for his relevant services for the institution and for his commitment to the environmental cause.
