Biography
Mr. Newton de Souza was born in the state of Paraná on May 6, 1953. He holds a degree in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUCRJ) and a master's degree from University of Pennsylvania. He also participated in IMD's High Performance Boards program in Lausanne, Switzerland. He was elected Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Odebrecht S.A. on May 12, 2017, when Luciano Guidolin took office as CEO for Odebrecht. He joined the Odebrecht Group in 1988 as General Counsel for Odebrecht S.A., becoming Executive Director in May 1997, always reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. He was part of the boards of directors of all leading companies of Odebrecht's business areas. He was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Companhia de Concessões Rodoviárias – CCR. In December 2015, he was elected member of the Board of Directors of Odebrecht S.A. In his professional history, he worked as visiting attorney at the law firm Dechert, Price & Rhoads (Philadelphia), as senior attorney in the law firm Pinheiro Neto Advogados from 1976 to 1982, and as senior attorney at the World Bank's Latin America and Caribbean Division (Washington, D.C.) from 1982 to 1987.
