Helene Santos Barbosa

Biography

Bachelor's and Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences (1974), specialization in Protozoology at the Bernhard Nocht Institut in Germany (1980-1982) and PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (1993). He is a researcher of Fiocruz, Head of the Laboratory of Structural Biology of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute and Researcher of Productivity in Research by CNPq. Vice-Director of Teaching, Information and Communication of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (2009-2013). Leader of the research group "Interaction Toxoplasma gondii-host cell". Member as Treasurer of the board of the Brazilian Society of Microscopy and Microanalysis (2009-2011). He is active in the areas of Parasitology and Cell Biology, with emphasis on the following topics: Toxoplasma gondii, experimental toxoplasmosis (congenital, Acute and chronic) and host-parasite-host interaction and Trypanosoma cruzi. Methodological tools: cell culture, light microscopy and ultrastructure (transmission electron microscopy and scanning). He coordinates three disciplines in the IOC Postgraduate programs. He is a permanent lecturer in the Graduate Programs in Cellular and Molecular Biology and in Parasitary Biology and is a collaborating professor of the Tropical Medicine Program at Oswaldo Cruz Institute.
