Biography

Afonso Caricati Neto Graduated in Biological Sciences (Licenciatura and Bachelor's degree - medical modality) by the Basic Institute of Medical and Agricultural Biology - UNESP-Botucatu (1983-1984). He obtained his Master's degree (1989) and PhD in Sciences (1996) from the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) - Escola Paulista de Medicina (EPM). He completed postdoctoral studies in Molecular Pharmacology at UNIFESP / EPM (1997-1999) and in Cardiovascular and Autonomic Pharmacology at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) / Faculty of Medicine - Spain (2001 and 2010-2011). Head of the Discipline of Pharmacology UNIFESP / EPM (2009-present). Professor-counselor of the Graduate Program in Pharmacology - UNIFESP / EPM. Associate Researcher of the Teófilo Hernando Institute of Pharmacology I + D del Medicamento - UAM - Spain. Vice-president (2005-2008) and member of the board (1997-2005) of the Latin American Association of Pharmacology (ALF).

Research Interest

Molecular, Autonomic and Cardiovascular Pharmacology. It acts in the following subjects: 1) mechanism of action of drugs; 2) drug-modifying factors (aging, hormonal variation, genetic mutations, prolonged use of medications, pathologies and others); 3) receptors and cell signaling; 4) neurotransmission; 5) autonomic and cardiovascular dysfunctions in hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, myocardial infarction, hemorrhagic shock, septic shock and others.
