Biography

Flávia Talarico Saia holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of São Carlos (1997), a master's degree (1999) and a Doctorate (2005) in Hydraulics and Sanitation from the School of Engineering of São Carlos - University of São Paulo (SHS / EESC / USP). He has a teaching experience at Centro Universitário Paulista (Unicep, São Carlos) and postdoctoral degree in Microbiology from the University of Wageningen, The Netherlands (2007-2009) and at SHS / EESC // USP (2010-2012). She was a DTI Fellow (2009-2010) at the Laboratory of Ecology of Microorganisms at the Oceanographic Institute of the University of São Paulo within the Network of National Reference Laboratories in Applied Microbiology for Environmental Sanitation (LNMSA) and collaborating professor at the Institute of Chemistry - Unesp -Araraquara, in the area of ​​Bioenergy (2012-2013). She is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Marine Sciences at Unifesp-Baixada Santista.

Research Interest

She has experience in Environmental and Applied Microbiology (Santos and São Vicente-Baixada Santista Estuary (SP), Bertioga mangrove (SP)) and Environmental Sanitation, mainly in the following areas: bioenergy, methane, nitrogen and sulfur cycle ; anaerobic biodegradation of xenobiotic compounds (BTEX, PCP), effluent treatment and molecular biology techniques (DNA-SIP, FISH, DGGE, microbial cloning) in the study of diversity and identification of microbial populations in environmental samples and bioreactors.
