Jair Ribeiro Chagas

Biography

Jair Ribeiro Chagas has a PhD in Biological Sciences (Molecular Biology), Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP 1988-1993) and postdoctoral degree in Biochemistry and Enzymology of Proteases at the University of São Paulo François Rabelais, Tours, France (1995-1996). He worked for eight years at Hoechst do Brasil Química e Farmacêutica (nowadays Aventis) in the area of ​​new medicines, returning to UNIFESP in 1988. He joined the UNIFESP Biophysics Department in 1993. He was pro-rector of research and graduate studies at University of Mogi das Cruzes (UMC), from 1999 to 2006, on unpaid leave from UNIFESP, from 1999 to 2004. He participated in the creation of the postgraduate, master's and doctoral programs in Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering of UMC. He returned to Unifesp in exclusive dedication since 2006 where he was Associate Professor of the Department of Biosciences and adviser of the graduate programs in Psychobiology and Molecular Biology.

Research Interest

Has experience in Biochemistry of Proteases and Synthesis and Activity of Biologically Active Peptides, Molecular Biology, Cellular Proteases, with projects in the areas of Kallikreins, Serpins, Cysteine ​​Proteases, Angiotensin Converting Enzyme 1, Proteolytic Activities in Sleep Deprivation Models, Addition to Drugs and Hypoxia.
