Biography
Graduated in Chemistry from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1990) and PhD in Chemical Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires (1993). Full Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and Research Productivity Fellow 1B of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). He was Director of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (UFRGS) 2002-2010, member of the UFRGS Graduate Chamber and the Advisory Committee for the Technological Centers of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. He was awarded the 1st place of the XX Young Scientist Award (CNPq) and received honorable mention for works presented at congresses in Brazil and abroad. He has published more than 200 articles in journals of international circulation. Scientific advisor to several development agencies in Brazil and abroad. Member of the editorial board of Annals of Microbiology and Food Microbiology journals and ad hoc reviewer of more than 30 international journals in Microbiology, Biotechnology and Food Science. He mentored more than 40 master's dissertations and 20 doctoral theses.
Research Interest
He has experience in the areas of Biochemistry and Microbiology, with emphasis on enzymes and bioactive peptides, working mainly on the following topics: production and characterization of microbial enzymes, production and characterization of antimicrobial peptides and antioxidant peptides, agroindustrial waste recycling.
