Biography

Ana Luiza Maia holds a PhD from the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto / USP (1994), with postdoctoral degree in Endocrinology / Molecular Biology at the Thyroid Division, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. She was responsible for the implementation of the molecular diagnosis of Endocrine Neoplasia Type 2 in the Department of Endocrinology of the Hospital of Clinics of Porto Alegre, considered since then as a reference in the diagnostic and therapeutic research of medullary thyroid carcinoma. He coordinated the elaboration of the Brazilian guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of Thyroid Differentiated Carcinoma (Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabology) and Thyroid Medullary Carcinoma (Brazilian Medical Association). Among the several prizes received are the Knoll Prize-Young Researcher, Prize Prof. Thales Martins, LATS Prize-Young Investigator, and Fogarty International Research Collaboration Award and LATS 2013 Award, awarded by the Latin American Thyroid Society to researchers who have contributed significantly to the development of scientific research in Latin America. Reviewer of international journals such as Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, Endocrinology, Obesity, Clinical Endocrinology and European Journal of Endocrinology. She is a leading researcher in the Goitre and Neoplasm of Thyroid Research Group, with projects approved in the various national development agencies (CNPq, PPSUS / FAPERGS, FIPE / HCPA) and international (NIH).
