Biography

Antonio Cardoso dos Santos Graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo in 1977, with medical residency in Physiatry also at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo. - Specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation by the Brazilian Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation since 1981. - Effective Member of the Brazilian Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine. - Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and the Graduate Program in Surgery with master's and doctoral orientation in the research line: Osteomuscular Pain and Rehabilitation. - Physician of the Department of Physiatry of the Hospital of Clinics of Porto Alegre: he set up and directed the Physiatry Service from 1984 to 2005, and from 2011 to the present date, establishing the Medical Residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Specialization Courses, the Occupational Gymnastics Program of the Hospital, and was mainly responsible for the national and intentional concept of the Service, which is a Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation Center. - Developed several electrotherapy equipment and technologies in the rehabilitation area, along with the Biomedical Engineering Service such as: Trans Eletrical Neuro Stimulation (TENS), FES (Electronic Eletrical Stimulation), these technologies, considered to be the most important in Latin America .

Research Interest

Currently dedicated to deepening knowledge in the area of ​​musculoskeletal pain and rehabilitation in: LERDORT (Osteomuscular Disorders Related to Work); Quality of life, exercise and physical activity in workers, liver transplant patients, nephropathies and cardiovascular pathologies; and in the treatment of spasticity in neurological diseases through neuromuscular blocks.
