Biography

Augusto Schrank Graduated in Pharmacy and Biochemistry by Faculty of Pharmacy, UFRGS (1977), Master in Science (Microbiology) by Institute of Microbiology Prof. Paulo de Góes, UFRJ (1981) and PhD in Molecular Biology - University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (1988). He is a Full Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. He is the director of the Graduate Program in Cell and Molecular Biology (PPGBCM) of the Biotechnology Center where he is the group leader. He was Coordinator of PPGBCM and Head of Department. He is Coordinator of the area of ​​Biological Sciences I of CAPES (2011-2016). He has experience in the field of Molecular Genetics of Microorganisms, with an emphasis on Fungi, working mainly with the Metarhizium and Cryptococcus fungi in the following subjects: determinants of pathogenicity and mechanisms of infection, chitinases, proteases and lipases.

Research Interest

He has experience in the areas of genomics, differential expression analysis and genetic transformation systems for the construction of functional mutants in fungi. Has experience in human resources training at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
