Biography

Joel Lavinsky MD, MSc, PhD. Doctorate in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Master's Degree in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Postdoctoral degree from the Department of Otolaryngology, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. Otorhinolaryngologist by the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre (UFCSPA) with Medical Residency (MEC). Specialist Degree in Otorhinolaryngology from ABORL-CCF / AMB and MEC. Graduation in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Professor of the Post-Graduate Program in Surgical Sciences, UFRGS. Adjunct Professor of Human Anatomy, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Preceptor of Otology and Neurotology of the Medical Residency of the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre (UFCSPA) in the Otorhinolaryngology Service of the Santa Casa Hospital Complex in Porto Alegre. Assistant Professor of the Discipline of Otorhinolaryngology, Federal University of Health Sciences, Porto Alegre (UFCSPA). Researcher of the Group of Research in Otology and Otoneurology of the Hospital of Clinics of Porto Alegre (HCPA). Member of the ABORL-CCF Continuing Medical Education Committee. Member of the Scientific Board of the Associação Gaúcha de Otorrinolaringologia (ASSOGOT-CCF).

Research Interest

The main areas of practice are: clinical and surgical otology, neurotology and surgery of the lateral base of the skull with emphasis on Ménière's disease, sensorineural deafness, chronic otitis media, cochlear implant, otosclerosis and acoustic neurinoma. The main line of research is the molecular and genetic research of the inner ear to find new genes responsible for hearing loss. In 2014, conducted the discovery of the gene responsible for noise-induced hearing loss through the first study of association of the entire genome that was proven in mutant mice.
