Biography

He holds a degree in Industrial Chemistry from the Federal University of Pará (1973), a Master's degree in Chemistry (Inorganic Analytical Chemistry) from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1982) and a PhD in Postgraduate Studies in Mining and Materials Engineering from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1997). He is currently a Full Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. He specializes in Analytical Chemistry, with emphasis on Optical Methods of Analysis, working mainly in Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (conventional AAS and high resolution with continuous source HR-CS AAS). Member of the Management Committee of INCT Energy and Environment.

Research Interest

The research focuses on the development of analytical methods for the determination of trace elements (metals and amethals) in various types of geological samples (shale, charcoal, crude oil, sediments ...), biological, food (coffee, chocolate, cereals, beverages, vegetables ...), industrial (fuels, effluents, waste electrical and electronic equipment ...), airborne particulate filters and pharmaceuticals. With emphasis on direct analysis of solids, suspension and emulsion samplings, electrothermal vaporization and steam generation.
