Biography

Onilda Santos da Silva holds a bachelor's degree in Biology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, a Master's degree in Biosciences (Zoology) from the same University, and a PhD and postdoctoral degree in Natural Sciences - Parasitology, from Eberhard-Karls - Universität Tübingen, Germany. In this university she also worked as a researcher in the area of ​​control of Aedes aegypti and Anopheles sp. From 2000 to 2008 he worked in research and teaching at the University of Southern Santa Catarina. In this university he emphasized the research on the control of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, as well as distribution of sandflies in Southern Brazil. From 2008, he began teaching and research activities at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. 

Research Interest

She develops researches in the area of ​​biology and control of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus with chemical and natural products and resistance to chemical insecticides. In the line of biology and mosquito control, it evaluates associations with Free Life Amoebae as well as entomobacteria such as Xenorhabdus nematophila, Photorhabdus luminescens, Wolbachia pipientis and general bacterial microbiota of these mosquito species. She also works in the area of ​​Human Parasitology, with emphasis on Leishmaniasis and Phlebotomines and other Zoonoses. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
