Biography

He holds a medical degree from the State University of Campinas (1975) and a Residency in Endocrinology from the Universitätsklinikum Benjamin Franklin Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin (1979). He obtained the titles of Master (1982) and Doctorate (1987) in Endocrinology and Medicine, respectively, by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo. He has held post-doctoral (1989-1990) in Molecular Biology in the Service of Prof. Shlomo Melmed under the supervision of Prof. James A. Fagin at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (University of California, Los Angeles) and Genetics of Insulin Resistance Syndromes with Prof. Nicola Longo of Emory University (1996). He obtained the title of Professor of the University of São Paulo (1998). He was responsible for the Diabetes Unit of the Hospital das Clínicas (1998-2005), by the Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Endocrinology - LIM 25 / HCFMUSP (1999-2001), Chairman of the Graduate Commission of the Discipline of Endocrinology of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Sao Paulo (2001-2003) and Collaborating Professor of the same institution 2000-2005). Participated in the Human Cancer Genome Project funded by FAPESP / Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (1999-2003). He held the position of Executive Manager of Business Development and Clinical Research at Mantecorp IQF from 2006 to 2009. He obtained a Master in Business Administration in Business Management from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (2009). He is currently Professor of the Department of Health Sciences (Master and Doctorate in Medicine) at the University of Nove de Julho (UNINOVE) where he develops research projects in the areas of Diabetes and Metabolism, mainly on the following topics: Role of IGF-I in the oncogenesis of neuroendocrine tumors, as well as in tumor markers, gene expression of oncogenes and neoplastic suppressor genes. He is Editor-in-chief of the journal Diabetology and Metabolic Syndrome
