Biography

He holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the State University of Campinas (1985), a Master's Degree in Infectious and Parasitary Diseases from the University of São Paulo (1990) and a Ph.D. in Immunology - Cornell University (1997). He joined the Department of Parasitology at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in 1997 and currently teaches at this institution. He has experience in the field of Parasitology, with emphasis on Immune Response against Helminth Parasites, acting mainly on the following topics: Strongyloides venezuelensis infection, Schistosoma mansoni induced granuloma, expulsion of intestinal nematodes and modulation of chronic inflammation (colitis and asthma) and resistance and susceptibility of Biomphalaria to S. mansoni infection.

Research Interest

Intestinal and pulmonary immune response against nematode parasites of laboratory rodents, Mechanisms of protection developed by B. tenagophila during S. mansoni infection, Comparative analysis of the pulmonary inflammatory process: Asthma versus nematode infection, Schistosomiasis, Intestinal IgE participation on the effector mechanism of Trichinella spiralis elimination, Immune response in rats infected with Trichenella spiralis.
