Biography
He holds a medical degree from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1958) and a PhD in Medicine (Anatomy) from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1963) and a postdoctoral degree from Northwestern University, Chicago (1967). He is currently Professor Emeritus at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, working in the Department of Zoology. He is also President of the Board of Trustees of the Biodiversitas Foundation. Has already been dedicated to Neurobiology with several works published in this area. Today he is dedicated to Zoology in the areas of dragonfly taxonomy (Odonata) and endangered species. He is also a writer with 37 books for children and juveniles and 3 for published adults and playwright with 6 children plays staged, 4 of them published in addition to two comedies for adults. He received, among others, the Jabuti Prizes for children's literature (1993) and SESC-SATED for best children's theater text (1996). He is a member of the Brazilian Academies of Science, Mining of Medicine and Mining of Letters.
