Biography
He holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (1987), a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1989) and a PhD in Mechanics from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, USA. He carried out a research internship at the Laboratoire de Mécanique et d'Acoustique, Marseille, France, from January to June 1990; held postdoctoral fellowship at Rice University, Houston, TX, USA, from February 1998 to August 1999 and from September to November 2001; worked at Energy Solutions International, Houston, TX, USA, from October 1998 to July 2001; was a visiting researcher at the Federal University of Paraná from January 2002 to July 2003; was a guest researcher at the University of Bordeaux I, Talence, FR, from June 23 to July 26, 2008; He has been a visiting researcher at the University of Minnesota, MN, USA, from December 15, 2010 to June 14, 2011. Since August 2003, he has been a professor at the Department of Structural Engineering of the School of Engineering of São Carlos. lines of research Numerical Methods and Materials and Mechanics of Materials Department. He is the leader of the Solids Mechanics research group, which is registered in the CNPq database and counts on the lines of research on Singular States in Elasticity and Mechanics of Heterogeneous Elastic Solids. He is a reviewer of journals and an accredited advisor in the Post-Graduation Programs in Structural Engineering and Bioengineering at USP. Participated as a member of the international committee KAUST, chaired the organization of PACAM XI and currently is Guest Editor of the journal JoMMS, member of the PACAM XII organizing committee and vice-chair of the PACAM committee at the American Academy of Mechanics (AAM). He has been a member of the AAM since 1998, the Society for Natural Philosophy (SNP) since 2009 and the Brazilian Association of Engineering and Mechanical Sciences (ABCM) since 1989 (intermittent) and serves as ad hoc advisor to CNPq, FAPESP and Fundação Araucária. He has worked mainly in the following topics: Finite Element Method, Solid Mechanics, Optimization Methods, Nonlinear Elasticity, Anisotropic Elasticity, Wave Propagation in Porous Media, Homogenization Methods.
