Biography
João Fernando Gomes de Oliveira is Graduated in Mechanical Engineering (1982), PhD in Mechanical Engineering (1988) and Free Teaching (1992) from the University of São Paulo - School of Engineering of São Carlos and Postdoctoral Degree from the University of California - Berkeley (1994). He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of IPT - Institute of Technological Research of the State of São Paulo and is retired from the position of Full Professor at the Engineering School of São Carlos, University of São Paulo. He is a member of the editorial board of the journals: Journal of Engineering Engineering, Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering and Machining Science and Technology and Full Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He is a Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering - CIRP, member of the Brazilian Association of Mechanical Sciences - ABCM and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers - SME. He was Coordinator of the Area of ​​Engineering III of the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel - CAPES from 2005 to 2007 and President of the Innovation Agency Fábrica do Milênio, the first innovation agency in Brazil. Appointed in May 2011 to be a representative of the Scientific Community at the Higher Council for the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). He has experience in Mechanical Engineering, with emphasis on Machining Machines, working mainly on the following topics: precision grinding, monitoring processes and production systems and sustainable manufacturing processes. He directed 30 dissertations and 17 doctoral theses. He coordinated the Instituto Fábrica do Milênio, a national program with more than 600 researchers on manufacturing, with the objective of promoting the technological development of the manufacturing industry in Brazil.
