Biography
Clovis Torres is one of Vale S.A.’s executive officers and its general counsel, with responsibility for its Legal, Tax, Compliance, Security and Infrastructure departments. He is also currently the chairman of the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM). He has extensive experience in the areas of law, mining, management, leadership, finance and M&A, and he has done various courses at Harvard, MIT, IMD and INSEAD. He previously served as Vale’s corporate legal director, senior attorney at the International Finance Corporation, executive vice president of Bahia Mineração Ltda., a member of Petrobras’ board of directors, and chairman of Petrobras Distribuidora S.A. He has an undergraduate degree in law from Salvador Catholic University, a master’s in international law, trade and finance from Tulane University, New Orleans, and an executive MBA from Fundação Getulio Vargas.
