Dr. Anton Yordanov Dzhorov

Biography

Leading specialist in orthognathic and reconstructive surgery in Bulgaria. Graduated from Medical University in Sofia in 1982. Acquired specialties in General Dentistry, Surgical Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery. He specialized in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Military Medical Academy of Sofia under the direction of Prof. N. Georgiev, and concerning orthognathic problems and microvascular surgery at the Military Hospital in Prague under the direction of prof. Nemeth  and in Havana in the National surgical center "Brothers Ameheras" with prof. Kruanyas. Passed courses in anesthesiology and intensive care, implantology, microvascular, orthognathic and craniofacial surgery. In 2005 defended his dissertation and acquired educational and scientific PhD degree. Since 2008 has a habilitation as an associate professor. Professional realization: Till 1987 he worked in Dolna Banya by distribution. After a concours in 1987 he was chosen for an assistant in Oral and Maxillofacial Department of Medical University Sofia, where he worked till 2008. From 2008 to 2012 he was chief of diagnostic and treatment activities in Specialized Hospital for Maxillofacial surgery in University Hopsital Sofia. From 2012 to 2013 he was an associate professor in Military Medical Academy Sofia. For the first time in Bulgaria he executed succesful vascularized transplantations of illiac bone through microsurgical technique for reconstructions of lower jaw. He introduced in Bulgaria sagittal osteotomy by Epker and transcutaneous mandibular osteosynthesis. For the first time in Bulgaria he reconstructed significant mandibular defects through distraction osteogenesis. He introduces in Bulgaria arthroplastics through bone chondral transplant with preserved growing center in the treatment of ankylosis and created a method for arthroplastics of mandibular joint with coronary outgrowth. For the first time in Bulgaria he uses intraoral implants for holding silicone epithesis in significant facial defects
