Biography

Prof. Dr. Nikola Kolev, Ph.D. graduated in Medicine in 1998. at the Medical University-Varna. He obtained his specialty in "Surgery" in 2003. He defended a dissertation on "Clinical Importance of Intraoperative Marking of Sentinel Lymph Nodes in Colorectal Cancer". In 2012. defends dissertation on "Rectum cancer - modern surgical behavior" and has been elected Professor at the Department of General and Operative Surgery. From 2012 Prof. Nikola Kolev is Head of Department of General and Operative Surgery. The youngest associate professor and professor in the field of surgery in Bulgaria. She speaks excellent English and Russian. Prof. Dr. Nikola Kolev focuses on cancer surgery of colon and colon, liver, bile ducts, pancreas and others. After specializing in leading world centers, he has perfected his skills in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery as well as endoscopic procedures. Specializes on the following guidelines: visceral surgery; colorectal surgery; liver, biliary and pancreatic surgery; oncological surgery; miniinvasive, endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery; mini-invasive esophageal surgery; intraoperative and endorectal echography; thoracoscopic surgery; robotic surgery in leading world centers such as Los Angeles, Harvard Medical University Boston (USA), Pittsburgh (USA), Cambridge (UK), Bern (Switzerland), Milan (Italy), Hanover (Germany) , Seoul, South Korea, Ljubljana (Slovenia), Berlin (Germany), Fort Lauderdale (USA), Under his leadership, the first portal venous embolization in Bulgaria was performed at an advanced stage of liver metastases, allowing for a radical operation of the patient and a new chance for life. With a team of invasive radiologists, he performs thermal ablation in liver metastases and primary tumors, as well as transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). He participated in the development of a modern methodology for the treatment of early rectal cancer - submucosal dissection, which started to apply from 2012.
