Biography
Ms. Annu Anand studied BA in Philosophy & Sociology from Guru Nanak Dev University and Masters in Mass Communication & Journalism from Bangalore University. Between 1985 and 1993 she worked with Jansatta daily, Chauthi Duniya weekly, Adarsh Patra dialy, PTI and Delhi Press Group. She has published over 1000 articles on various subjects, with emphasis on issues related to human development to women’s issues, child labour, environment and health. During her long association with Press Institute of India, she acted as Editor of Grassroots and Vidura (Hindi) and Associate Editor for Grassroots and Vidura (English), and coordinated different projects of Press Institute of India funded by Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, UNICEF, UNFPA and Global Fund for Children (GFC) from 1998 to 2008. She acts as Visiting Faculty at journalism schools and training colleges including Makhanlal Chaturvedi University of Journalism, Bhopal/ Noida and the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi. She was awarded Thakur Vedram National Award for development journalism in 2002, Kalam Ka Sipahi Award in 1997 and UNFPA National Laadli Media Award for gender sensitivity in 2008. She was also the Panos Fellow 1998. Currently she is independent Senior Development Journalist, and is the Trustee of Grassroots India.
