Roger Wehrell

Biography

For thirty years Roger Wehrell’s passion has been teaching students to use their business skills to make a difference through their own enterprises or through work with community based enterprises with a mandate for community development. Before coming to the Manning School of Business Administration two years ago, he taught at the University of Ottawa, the University of New Brunswick at Saint John, Mount Allison University, and St. Francis Xavier University. He was director of the John Dobson Micro-enterprise Centre at Mount Allison and director of St. Francis Xavier’s Extension Department. He has designed and implemented community economic development projects in rural Atlantic Canada, has facilitated sustainable livelihoods initiatives in Kenya, and has designed micro-finance programs for women vendors in Cairo and Addis Ababa. He completed a large study of home-based businesses in this region. He is currently focused on family enterprise as part of Acadia’s interest in establishing a centre for the study and support of family businesses in Atlantic Canada. His professional service includes many years of work with CMA Canada and this most recent year as treasurer on the Board of Directors of the Nova Scotia Gambia Association supporting peer group HIVAIDS education among high school students in Sierra Leone and the Gambia.
