Biography
Guido ('Guy') Pas is a Belgian financier based in Geneva with 40 yrs of experience in finance, mining and exploration. He was a Vice President of Chase Manhattan Bank (Belgium; France; Switzerland) in structured and commodity finance, from 1973-83, when he joined a team managing two 'Africa-focussed oil trading companies' where he was CFO from 1984-87. He has been involved in numerous start-up and early-stage resource ventures, including: Co-founder (1987) of The Addax & Oryx Group Ltd., an integrated African oil group; and, Co-founder (2004) of Afren Plc, a West African oil & gas company listed on AIM London (AFR). In 1989, as Director of Addax & Oryx he co-founded and was the chairman of Samax Resources Ltd, which enjoyed 2 major gold mine discoveries in Tanzania; Golden Pride now owned and operated by Resolute; and a part of the Geita Gold Mine now owned and operated by AngloGold Ashanti. In 1995, Mr. Pas founded and was chairman (currently non-executive Director) of Mano River Resources Inc., dual listed on TSXV and AIM, which acquired African Aura Resources in 2009, to be renamed African Aura Mining, then in 2011 continued as Afferro Mining Inc. focussed on iron ore on Putu, Liberia initially, then on Nkout, Cameroon, and split off Aureus Mining Inc. focussed on building Liberia's first gold mine. In 2004, he cofounded Synergy Resources Fund renamed GAIA Resources Fund, which focuses on listed resource companies in oil and gas, metals and minerals and agriculture.
