Biography
Dr. Marquardt has been awarded Professor emeritus status at the University of Manitoba. He was a Professor of Nutritional Biochemistry at the University of Manitoba for over 30 years during which time he had extensive experience in research and development especially in the area of Nutritional Biochemistry, Nutrition, Molecular Biology, Toxicology and Analytical Chemistry. Much of his research has been directed to the study of natural products including their isolation, characterization, and metabolism in mammalian systems. Dr. Marquardt was highly successful in obtaining grants from Canada’s highest level granting agency (NSERC, Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada). He consistently was one of the top holders of research grants at the University of Manitoba. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed research papers, reviews in National and International journals, book chapters and books; served as an evaluator on National Grant Selection Committees; and was an editor of a Canadian Scientific Journal. Dr. Marquardt has trained over 60 MSc, Ph.D. and Post Doctoral students and has collaborated with Scientists from the USA, Germany, Spain, France, Egypt, India, China and Korea. Dr. Marquardt is also familiar with the transfer of technology to industry as he has been involved in the start up of four biotechnology companies in Manitoba, including NutraTech Inc., Norzyme Inc., Zyme Fast Inc., and now ANNP Inc. Since 2005, he has extended his interest to nutraceuticals and functional foods. He has had extensive experience in research, development and quality control of nutraceutical products. Dr. Marquardt with his Ph.D. student, Dr. S. Li, have developed several patentable new methods on the use and production of nutraceuticas.
