Biography
Ian Charter began his teaching career on the Faculty of Music at Prairie Bible College in Three Hills, Alberta, where he served from 1982-1990. In 1991 he relocated to Canadian Bible College in Regina, Saskatchewan, where he served for twelve years on the Faculty of Music at Canadian Bible College. As Canadian Bible College joined with Canadian Nazarene College, Ian became a member of the faculty at Ambrose University in Calgary, where he now serves as Associate Professor of Music, teaching conducting, music theory, and composition in the Bachelor of Arts (Music) and Bachelor of Music programs. Ian directs the 40-voice Ambrose College Singers and has a particular interest in composition and arranging. His collaborative performances of Handel's Messiah with the Regina Symphony Orchestra as well as his appointment as Artistic Director of the Regina Philharmonic Choir (2002-2003 season) were highlights of his achievements while Canadian Bible College was situated in Regina. Over the years, Ian’s college choral ensembles have toured extensively throughout Canada. From 2003 to 2010 Ian served as choir director at First Baptist Church, Calgary. He is active as soloist and church music clinician in the Calgary area. Ian and his wife Colleen are the parents of two children, Emily and Richard.
