Biography
Neil Maresky is the Vice President, Scientific Affairs at AstraZeneca Canada Inc., one of Canada’s leading biopharmaceutical companies. Neil joined AstraZeneca Canada in 2010 from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals where he held the position of Vice President, Scientific Affairs/Medical Director. In 2008, for a period of six months, Neil served as Interim President and General Manager of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals (Canada). Prior to his tenure at Wyeth, Neil was Vice President of Medical and Scientific Affairs at Bayer Inc. He also held the roles of Director of Clinical Product Development at Bayer Inc. and Director of Drug Safety and Pharmaco-epidemiology at Novartis Canada Ltd. In addition to more than 17 years in the research-based pharmaceutical industry, Neil has worked as a family physician in Johannesburg, South Africa, as well as gained experience in cardiology and emergency room care. He studied at the University of Cape Town, South Africa and graduated from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B., B.Ch) in 1987. Neil has been a member of many professional associations and has given numerous lectures at industry conferences, medical conferences and universities across Canada. He has also been published in several healthcare journals including Human Vaccines, The Canadian Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Canada and Chest. Neil and his wife Mandy moved from South Africa to Canada in 1993. They have three children – Aimee, Lori and Aaron.
