Constance Blomgren

Biography

Constance Blomgren was born and raised in southern Alberta to a ranching family. She attended the University of Calgary and completed a Bachelor of Education in 1983 after a year study as a Rotary Scholar at the University of Western Australia. Over the course of her twenty-five years in public education, she taught junior and senior high school students at Calling Lake AB, Telegraph Creek BC, and in southern Alberta with the Livingstone Range School Division. Her teaching assignments included Grades 3-12 and included Language Arts and Learning Support for students with various disabilities. In 1995, she completed the Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (University of Saskatchewan), a Masters in Education from the University of Lethbridge (Curriculum Studies – 1999) and her PhD in Education from the University of Calgary (Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning – 2007). She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses with the University of Lethbridge and Athabasca University (Master of Arts – Integrated Studies).

Research Interest

Her current research interests include the following: Visual culture/visual studies; photography; digital storytelling; technology and educational media as pedagogical practice; gender and education; Western and Non-western epistemologies and vision; Life writing traditional, visual, emerging, and writing as a tool of professional growth and personal self-reflection. She is married, has two children, and resides along the Oldman River between Pincher Creek and the Crowsnest Pass.
