Biography
Dr. Evelyne Gagnon areas of expertise are French lyricism, and French Canadian and Québécois literature. She also has a great passion for poetry, and is publishing her own creative writings. Evelyne Gagnon holds a Ph.D. in Québécois literature (UQAM). Her doctoral thesis examined the works of Jacques Brault, Michel Beaulieu, and Hélène Dorion by defining a new form of lyricism in a North American and Francophone perspective, in comparison with the evolution of lyricism in French literature. In 2012-13, she held a CRILCQ Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Université de Montréal focusing on contemporary poetry. She also held a SSHRC funded Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Canadian literature Centre (CLC-University of Alberta) entitled “Something like Nostalgia: Renewed forms of melancholia in contemporary Canadian literature.” Her current research focuses on contemporary melancholia by exploring poetics and narratives about various forms of loss and grief, which also reflects the precariousness of the present time. Before joining Athabasca University, Dr. Gagnon taught French literature at the University of Alberta, Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf (Montreal) and Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). Through various collaborations, she co-organized many conferences and co-edited, with Prof. Denise Brassard, two peer-reviewed publications on Québécois poetry.
