Biography
Manijeh Mannani holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Alberta where she is Adjunct Professor. She supervises doctoral theses and coordinates ENGL 212: Poetry and Plays; ENGL 305: Literature for Children; ENGL 307 Women in Literature; ENGL 316: Approaches to Literary Theory and Criticism; ENGL 335: Comparative Literature I; ENGL 336: Comparative Literature II; ENGL 423: Advanced Literary Theory; ENGL 551: Comparative Canadian Literature; ENGL 591: Cultural Studies; and MAIS 638: What I Tell You May Not Be True: Autobiography, Discourse Analysis, and Post-Colonialism. Professor Mannani is Associate Dean, Program and Course Planning. She is Series Editor for Mingling Voices.
Research Interest
Dr. Mannani's research and teaching interests include Persian Literature, Comparative Literature, Life-Writing, and Cultural Studies. Her publications consist of Divine Deviants: The Dialectics of Devotion in the Poetry of Donne and Rumi (Peter Lang, 2007) and NajvÄ: Selected poems of E.D. Blodgett in Persian (Nasl-i NuvÄ«n, 2006). She is the co-editor of Selves and Subjectivities: Reflections on Canadian Arts and Culture (Athabasca University Press, 2012), and Familiar and Foreign: Identity in Iranian Film and Literature (Athabasca University Press, 2015). Speak Only of the Moon: A New Translation of Rumi (Afshar Publishing, 2015) is a collection of ghazals and other poems by the Persian Sufi poet, Rumi, in English which Dr. Mannani has published in collaboration with Dr. E.D.Blodgett.
