Biography

Al Langsenkamp is a native of Indianapolis, IN. After graduating from Purdue University in 1981 (BSIM Industrial Management / Computer Science) he started his entrepreneurial career. In 1982, he founded Sigma/Micro Corporation to develop software for the rapidly growing direct to consumer retail sector. Sigma/Micro counted some of the nation’s leading retailers such as Sears, Lands’ End, Gap and Footlocker as clients. In 2000, Al founded Sigma Communications to combine emerging mapping technology with voice technology to create the Reverse911 public safety communication system. This patented technology was deployed by many of the nation’s largest population centers to provide rapid and targeted public safety messages via phone. The company was sold in 2007 to a Golden Gate Capital portfolio company. In 2007 Sigma Micro company was combined with Lexton, Inc to form FifthGear. The company offered end-to-end software, warehouse, call center and logistics services to eCommerce companies throughout the United States. The company was sold to Speed Commerce in an all cash deal in November 2014. Al served as CEO of all the above companies. Al currently sits on the Board of Directors of Defenders a nationwide home security company which ranks fourth largest in the industry. He also serves as a trustee for the Franciscan University of Steubenville where he chairs the Finance Committee. Al and his wife Therese are long time members of Legatus, where he has served as Indianapolis Chapter president. Additionally, he served 7 years on the Legatus National Board of Governors and two years as notional membership chair.
