Biography
Cynthia A. Sottie has been teaching in higher education since 2000. She worked within the community mental health care setting in Columbus, Ohio (USA), in the mid to late 1990s and briefly in Alberta, Canada, in 2010. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Ghana, Masters in Social Work from West Virginia University, USA and PhD from the Queen’s University in Northern Ireland, UK.
Research Interest
Her main area of interest is child and family welfare with specific focus on how to get young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to break out of the cycle of poverty/vulnerability. Other research interest areas are School Social Work and Mental Health/stigma. Past and ongoing research in these areas include experiences of children living under difficult conditions; ways of enhancing student educational outcomes; and mental health stigma community-based mental health care etc.
