Franklyn Hyde

Biography

Franklyn Hyde joined the academic staff at Booth College in 2009 after completing his PhD at Newcastle University. His dissertation was a study of the works of South African novelist J M Coetzee and the relation of these works to apartheid and post-apartheid politics. He has written numerous articles pertaining to Coetzee’s work from which he is developing a book-length study of Coetzee’s fiction as “secular confession.”

Research Interest

Aside from his primary interests in Postcolonial and African literature, his specific teaching interests also extend to Modernist fiction, contemporary British and American fiction, and literary theory. For fun he is currently engaged in reading all the published works of Fyodor Dostoevsky in chronological order.
