Kim Buxton

Biography

Kim’s education includes a BSW from Booth University College and an MSW from the University of Manitoba. Additionally, she is certified in child and adolescent play therapy. Kim has been working in the field of social work for over 15 years in a variety of areas, including the school and child welfare systems.

Research Interest

A major focus of her career has been working with vulnerable children and families who have been affected by trauma, particularly Aboriginal families. Since 2008, Kim has been an instructor with Red River Community College in the Ndinawe Child and Youth Care Certificate training program. This community-based program trains adults who have a childhood history of sexual exploitation to work with at-risk youth in schools, treatment centres, and group homes. Kim’s teaching experience also includes teaching courses in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Manitoba and at Booth University College. She is passionate about teaching and guiding others to reach their full potential in order to benefit individuals, families, and communities.
