Guy Gilron

Biography

Guy holds an M.Sc. degree in Marine Ecology, and a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences (minor Chemistry) both from the University of Guelph, and is a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in British Columbia. Guy is a senior environmental professional with strong experience in the mining sector. His most recent position was Vice President Environmental/Regulatory Affairs at Cardero Coal. During his two-year tenure, Guy oversaw, directed and implemented all pre-application Environmental Assessment activities associated with Cardero's Carbon Creek project located in northeast BC. These activities included: baseline studies, permitting activities, and community consultations. Guy was also recently Director Environmental Science at Teck Resources; he had primary responsibility for ecological risk and environmental impact assessments, corporate biodiversity conservation programs, and dormant properties and contaminated sites assessment and management. Guy has over 22 years experience in ecotoxicology and ecological and human health risk assessment, the former relating specifically to effects on aquatic resources. He has also played a project management and scientific role in numerous large-scale environmental effects monitoring programs in aquatic ecosystems. He has also developed and evaluated ecotoxicity test methods, and has been involved in the development of Good Laboratory Practices for testing of commercial chemicals in toxicity laboratories. In addition to being on the editorial board of the journal Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management, Guy is a reviewer for the international journals Human and Ecological Risk Assessment and Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, and was previously a Steering Group Chair/Author of a section in “Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater”.
